L'Ormarins Queen's Plate

The winner of the inaugural Queen’s Plate in 1861 received a silver plate and 500 sovereigns donated by Queen Victoria. Since then the race has continued every year with style and grace matched by the gathering of the finest thoroughbreds in South Africa racing for this highly esteemed trophy and, this year, winning prize money of R1,000,000.00

It is an event where art and passion are captured not only in equestrian endeavours but also in the ancient winemaking skills displayed in the Antonij Rupert Wines; one of the largest collections of cars, courtesy of the Franschhoek Motor Museum; and a gallery of the best photos taken in the L’Ormarins Moments Competition.

As the sun sets, the best of South African music take to the stage to end off a glamorous day at the races.
