Franschhoek Open Gardens Festival

Visit 10 of Franschhoek's most spectacular gardens as they burst into bloom this summer. Most of these gardens have not been open to public viewing before and includes one recently filmed by BBC 'around the world in 80 gardens'. Enjoy 10 gorgeous gardens and the special festival atmosphere that only Franschhoek can provide!

Franschhoek Open Gardens

 

  • 10 spectacular gardens on show – from small to medium-sized gardens in the village to farm gardens, indigenous gardens, and ‘out of town’ gardens.
  • In the centre of town join in the festivities provided by Franschhoek – a tea and bubbly garden, live music, a fresh goods market and our hugely successful PLANT SALE.
  • R100 pp for a weekend pass. Tickets available on the day in the centre of town outside the Town Hall.
  • “Group discount” for 10 people or more – R80 pp. Tickets available on the day in the centre of town outside the Town Hall.

All proceeds go to the Lions Club of Franschhoek in aid of Fleur de Lis, Home for the Aged.

1 MONT PELLIER, Jacqueline Crewe-Brown
Upper Waterfall, Franschhoek (Past Bridge House School)

An artist’s interpretation, using indigenous plant material on rocky, inhospitable soil and a sloping mountain as her canvas, with natural predators of troops of baboons and the occasional leopard. Path is fairly steep in places. Age of garden: 8 years

2 VUE DE CIELE, Carol Cunningham
off Main Road, Franschhoek

A beautifully landscaped knoll that is full of colour, interesting pathways and water features. An example of Imagination and “can do” on a difficult hill site. Age of garden: 5 years

This inspiring jewel of a small garden, featured in several magazines, is an example of mixed plantings complimenting each other. Age of garden: 8 years

4 LA RIVE
29 Dirkie Uys Street, Franschhoek

This breathtaking English country garden is a picture in pastel plantings. At every turn a new vista opens providing a constant source of inspiration. Age of garden: 17 years; new area 8 years

5 Jackie Loubser
37 van Wijk Street, Franschhoek

A garden created with passion in the middle of the village. Soft floral borders in pastel shades reminiscent of times gone by compliment the Victorian house. Veggies and herbs are cleverly included. Age of garden: 5 years

6 MAYFLOWER, Linda Hightower
19 Cabriere Street, Franschhoek

A new village garden with a challenging colour scheme of orange and purple. Cleverly laid out for entertaining from a wide wrap-around veranda. Productive veggie garden and interesting plantings. Age of garden: 3 years

7 REHOBOTH, Trish Blyth
63 Reservoir Street, Franschhoek

This small formal garden is a picture in symmetry with clipped hedges and manicured borders. Planted with precision, pleasing the eye with its cool green, white and silver palette with hints of lilac. The organic potager garden is an added attraction. Age of garden: 4 years.

Large landscaped garden with massed rose beds and beautiful water features. Age of garden: 13 years

9 KLEIN CHAMPAGNE, Sabine Bosman

Park-like garden, spectacular roses, large and shaded river frontage, meandering paths and a lily covered lake. Age of garden: 9 years

A big farm garden with rolling lawns, old oaks and wide borders. A pretty potager garden combines rose arbours, herbs and veggies. Age of garden: 20 years; new area 5 years.
